Community Leadership Training

5-day Retreat for Facilitators to become Community Leaders

September 28-Oct 2, 2023 near Sequoia National Park, California

Who is this retreat for?

You’ve completed a facilitator training in your favorite practice. Now you return home, and you want to facilitate regularly. You know that growing and leading a community around this practice will insure its prosperity and bring you and others immense joy. If you are a circling, authentic relating, dance, yoga, plant medicine, or other facilitator in the relational or healing arts, and you want to grow your community leadership skills, this retreat is for you.

What You’ll Experience

  • Leadership Growth

Are you already a facilitator? Becoming a community leader asks for more skills, and reveals new personal edges. This retreat unleashes your full leadership potential by celebrating your wholeness, consciously communicating reflections, and expanding your visionary capacity. Our supportive container instills confidence that your leadership dreams are indeed already realized, and are waiting patiently for you to step into them.

  • Community Tools

We will teach you practical tools for growing a community around your favorite practice. A community keeps a practice alive, and practices keep communities alive. This retreat will focus on the relational art of Circling, and offer a variety of cultural practices like meditation, authentic relating, contact improvisation, family meals, song circles, life drawing and a Sequoia trek to harmonize us.

  • Lasting Friendships

Our retreat continues online for 12 weeks to grow our connections and offer integration support. When leaders feel friendship and support from other leaders, the small community transforms into a worldwide effort to elevate and connect community life. Not only that, but you will also have powerful facilitator friends with whom you can relate, learn, share joy, and feel understood. Practicing with other facilitators also sharpens skills.

Imagine Your Transformation

  • Tension in the body releases when you can be your true self. Life’s enjoyment expresses through you, because there is less resistance. As leaders, we set the tone for authentic expression, and have the power to help our groups feel at ease in themselves. This is fullness. This is wholeness.

  • Leadership presence can be felt in a space. It starts with trusting yourself - trusting that your presence is enough. When you are in full trust that you are truly present, your leadership emerges in the space naturally.

  • Do people normally understand you on the first try? With relational arts like circling and authentic relating, you clearly express yourself and your listener feels the resonance, even if they don’t agree. By embodying the principles of these relational arts, communication transmits through the energetic, emotional and verbal dimensions, creating connection no matter the content.

  • Holding space is both for yourself and for others. By understanding yourself better and practicing your emotional expression, you feel more relaxed holding the expressions of others. The more space you have internally, the more space you have to understand the room and its many dynamics. With that understanding, you can respond rather than react.

  • Your mind is powerful. Your creativity is endless. You expand your visionary capacity by believing in yourself first, opening to context and information, and focusing your energy. Established leaders often feel uncomfortable passing down leadership because they don’t trust their successors have the capacity to hold the entirety of their vision. In some cases this may be true. It’s easy to underestimate the importance of visionary capacity.

  • Leadership can feel lonely within the group you lead. By growing friendships with other leaders, you find more support and understanding around the nuances of your journey. This group of leaders converges with the intention to build an international community of leaders, so that we continue to support each other on our important missions.

The Relational Art of Circling

Circling creates relational trust. Our goal in circling is to connect to wholeness - in each individual and in the circle as a whole. It also develops self-leadership skills, activating your group voice and overcoming social fears.

In Circling, we first come to presence with self, and there we are met. When there is no want to change, direct, or influence the other, catharsis arises naturally. This mutual presence transforms us in ways that can’t be predicted, and reveal truth. Discovering new truth about self and the collective can feel ecstatic, enlightening, and bonding.

The 5 Principles established by Circling Europe have proved useful for over a decade. Owning and trusting your experience, open curiosity, sensational awareness and commitment to connection help to create a container for play, free expression, deep insight, and honest, graceful reflection. In community, this practice helps to clear stories and expectations, and arrive in the same time and space where love feels magnetic and alive.

Mastering this practice so that you can bring it to your community is one of the goals of this leadership training. If you already facilitate circling, specifically developing your self-leadership will be encouraged.
